Lecture | Artist Etty Yaniv
September 11
Yaniv is a Brooklyn-based artist who exhibits nationally and internationally, including at the Venice Art Biennial, Italy, The Haifa Museum of Art, Israel, State Silk Museum, Tbilisi, Georgia, Newark Museum of Art, NJ, Monmouth Museum of Art, NJ, Torrance Art Museum, CA, Sheen Cultural Center, NYC, and many more. In her work, she draws on patterns from nature and images from daily life, forming landscapes which blur the line between the real and the imagined, the organic and the artificial, the chaotic and the orderly. Her process begins by integrating discarded materials which normally do not go together to create new meanings. Assembling these two-dimensional fragments into three-dimensional clusters involves building and taking off, covering and uncovering, marking fresh paper and scavenging recycled material which includes scraps of her drawings, ink marks and fragments of photos from daily experiences. Yaniv received a MFA from SUNY Purchase, NY, a BFA from Parsons School of Design, NYC and a BA from Tel Aviv University.
Following the artist's talk, Yaniv's installation will be animated by a long term collaboration with the Department of Dance as part of their Interia program. Dance and sculpture will be in dynamic interplay from gallery through atrium to dance theatre as each space activates with unique artistic meaning. Choreographer Jaye Knutson's vision partners with the exquisite design of Yaniv's sculptural textiles to expand the concept of performativity in motion, vision and sound.
Enjoy the exhibition and reception following the artist talk and dance performance.
